"CONVENIENT SOUTH LOCATIONS...GREAT WAY TO BEGIN ONE'S DAY!"
"In the summer of 2006, I decided that I wanted to begin playing regular ice hockey again that Fall. I hadn't played organized hockey in 7 years, so I began researching available leagues in Calgary. All of the leagues I looked into played out of various different arenas around the city, and games typically began after 10pm. I enrolled in one of these leagues because it had the fewest number of games in the far North end of the city. Even so, about once per week, I was going to have to make a trip to either the far Northeast or Northwest of the city for a game that would only begin at 11pm.
Being that I live in the Shawnessy area, this was going to be a huge inconvenience. Later that summer, I saw advertising for a new morning league beginning in the Fall. When I found out that all of the games would be played at 1 of 2 arenas within 5-10 minutes from my house, I obtained a refund from the night league and enrolled in the SCRHL.
In addition to the convenient South locations, I continue playing in this league because I have learned that playing hockey in the morning is a great way to begin one's day! I have made many friendships through this league and would not consider going back to playing regular night games."

"COMPETITION IS GOOD, BUT ALWAYS FRIENDLY"
"My brother invited me to play hockey for the first time in over 23 years. I was hesitant for many reasons, mostly my physical condition. I was 240 lbs when I started and could barely skate a shift without feeling nausious. Now, 6 years later, I am 200 lbs and I get upset if I can't stay on the ice the whole game!
Every year I look forward to a new season to skate with old friends and make new ones. The competition is good but always friendly. The draft has helped in keeping the game a friendly atmosphere, I have played on many different teams, and I always enjoy playing against my old teammates. One of the many reasons that I enjoy this league is the fact that it is in the morning and there is no alcohol involved (which seems to keep tempers and behavior in check).
Some of the evening leagues I have tried and quit were just filled with guys looking for fights and, at 43 years old, I do not need that. The fact that all the games are in the same location and same time eliminate the hassle of navigating the city and traffic. I enjoy having early morning games as it doesn't interfere with the rest of your day and you already have had a healthy start to the day."

"WIDE VARIETY OF SKILLS WHICH HELPS ME LEARN MORE EACH YEAR!"
"I had just moved to Calgary from Saskatoon where I had just started playing hockey the year before and wanted a league close to home that was based on participation, having fun, and local organization. I saw the billboards that were posted in and around Shawnessy and it looked like the type of league in which I wanted to play. I enjoy the players in the league and there is a wide variety of skills which helps me to learn more each year. Being a 'morning person', I like the games in the morning and it is a great way to start the day."

"AFFORDABLE AND FUN...GREAT WAY TO GET OUT AND MEET NEW PEOPLE"
"I chose the SCRHL because it's close to my house, I can fit it easily into my personal and professional schedule, it's affordable, and it's fun. Its a great way to get out meet new people and play easy-going hockey, but there is still a level of competition that elevates the play."

"GOOD VARIETY OF SKILL AND PROMOTES SPORTSMANSHIP"
"I was looking for a morning league in which to play, when a friend phoned me recommending the SCRHL to me. The league seemed perfect so I signed up. I keep coming back because I enjoy the people in the league. The league has a good variety of skill and promotes sportsmanship."

"FUN REC HOCKEY"
"I was looking for some recreational hockey where I didn't have to drive across the City at 10pm on a week night and get home at 2am, only to be at work by 6:30am. Now, I can get some exercise in the morning and still be at my desk by 8:30am. It's fun rec hockey and not too serious with a bunch of good guys. I also like the fact that I'm almost never on the same team each year."
